My AP7/AP7C upgrade
Howdy Folks,
I just thought I would share some of my experiences upgrading to Firewalla APs. Before these I was using Netgear APs. Specifically I was using 3 AX6000 and one AX1800 (outdoor model). I still have the AX1800 because I need it for my generator. With the 3 AX6000s I had a dead spot in my living room, dining room, kitchen. So when I was installing the Firewall AP7Cs I had another cable run into my living room/dining room area. So I replace 3 netgear APs with 4 Firewalla APs (3 AP7Cs and 1 AP7D).
I really like the form factor. I was kind of pro-larger more powerful before this, but these look much nicer (see the photos below) and I don't have any issues with signal strength. They seem comparable to the significantly larger Netgear devices.
The AP7Cs are smaller though and when you have a double gang box, you can see the empty space above them pretty easily. I think it would be good for them to sell some sort of plate or something to fill in this space. The signal strength is good and I get really good download speeds. The interface in the Firewall app is so much better and more straight forward than the Insight.
I really need an outdoor option that is POE. I have the AX1800 mounted and I just need to replace that without running any electrical. If someone could would make an enclosure designed for the AP7C that could be mounted, it would be so helpful. I'll pay to have one 3d printed. I'm just as happy to buy AP7O if they create one for outdoors as well :)
Overall the AP7s are a much better experience.
