Devices slow or fail to reconnect after reboot (Firewalla Purple + TP-Link SG2008P, ISP: Astound)
I’m using a Firewalla Purple as my main router and DHCP server, connected to a TP-Link Omada SG2008P managed PoE switch. My ISP is Astound, and the internet connection is stable.
The issue I’m seeing is that several devices take extra time to reconnect—or fail to reconnect automatically—after being powered on or rebooted:
• PlayStation 5 (wired): Takes around 15–30 seconds to connect after turning on.
• NVIDIA Shield (wired): Doesn’t automatically reconnect after a reboot; I have to toggle its network connection off/on to restore internet access.
• Amazon Alexa devices (Wi-Fi via Omada EAP): Don’t appear in the Alexa app until I speak to them, which seems to trigger a reconnect.
Once connected, everything works normally. The issue only affects initial connection or reconnection after power-up or reboot.
Network setup summary:
• Only one VLAN/network; all devices share the same subnet.
• Firewalla Purple provides DHCP; TP-Link switch DHCP is disabled.
• DNS is set to Cloudflare (1.1.1.1).
• Switch ports show stable links (1 Gbps Full Duplex, no PoE overloads or link errors).
• Static IP reservations are configured for key devices.
What I’ve tried:
• Rebooted Firewalla, switch, and affected devices in sequence.
• Verified link speed/duplex on all wired ports.

15–30 seconds sounds not bad if it's just powered on. You can ping the Purple local network from an online device to generally monitor the local network performance. If the issue occurs again, check if the ping shows any high latency or packet drops.
And also set static IP on those local devices (not on Firewalla) as a test. It would bypass DHCP session.
