DNS over HTTPS and VPN but still being tracked by FB
Hi all,
Love the Gold and starting to get more serious about not being tracked so I started using DNS over HTTPS from router setting. I also am using a VPN. So my question is how is facebook still tracking me? Here is what happened: I was on my macbook and using remote desktop to linux box and needed to look up a BASH command. About 20 minutes later was on Facebook and an ad appeared in my feed for RED HAT training on BASH commands. I did do a duckduckgo search for the command help in my chrome browser ( I know, usually use brave) The only thing I can think of is I verbalized what I was looking for and my cell phone facebook app picked it up and sent to facebook analytic servers ... question: am i nuts for this line of thinking? are there facebook analytics servers I should be blocking at the firewall level? Thanks for any thoughts ...

Tracking is a huge topic and it is far beyond what I can write here ...
DoH: this function is to hide the domain name you are visiting (not the IP address) from your ISP, or intermediate nodes from you to the final destination. But not the destination itself.
VPN: VPN is an attempt to hide your traffic and the domain/IP you are from and visiting from intermediate nodes from you to the final destination. The destination will always know who you are, since likely you logged in to their system ...
