What if firewalla.com disappeared?
I love the fact there are no fees, and the device(s) are easy to use and provide great insight to my overly complicated (for a home) network, but was wondering, what happens down the road if/when sales slow for the company? What on the devices would still work and what wouldn't if firewalla.com ceased to exist?
In reading it seems like most everything is actually on the box, but the big catch is the app->box connection needs the cloud. Does the license authenticate to the cloud?. If so, would the box just stop working? Obviously, no updated IPS/IDS rules, app updates, or the web interface would work, but just wondering if the box becomes useless if the company has financial issues.
I have a red, and ordered my purple, so I'm not overly concerned about this, but hosting the cloud portion of these devices isn't free and the cost increases with new sales, so it's possible at some point new sales don't cover the cost of new development and hosting (see automatic.com : ) )
Maybe the hardware failure/replacement rate covers it if enough devices are sold? Just curious.
