Firewalla Gold and ATT BGW320 with WiFi Extender Service
HI,
I recently had AT&T fiber installed but didn't realize it has no parental controls or content filtering. To address this, I am considering purchasing the Firewall Gold to take advantage of my 1 Gig Internet connection (and I don't want to wait for the Purple to come out). Does anyone know if I will be able to use the Firewalla Gold with the AT&T system. In addition to the BGW320 gateway/router, I have two 4971 wireless extenders. I know I can set up the BGW320 to passthrough an IP address to the Firewalla, but I'm not sure what happens with the 4971 extenders.
Any thoughts on this before I pull the trigger on the purchase will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Hi Atwilllia,
You are correct, you can use Firewalla Gold with AT&T fiber in passthrough as you said. Depending on what AT&T equipment you have, there seem to be a few approaches options. https://www.att.com/support/article/smb-internet/KM1188700Here's some documentation I found specifically for the BGW320 and a third party router.

However, in that mode with this integrated modem/router, the Wi-Fi would be an issue. If you have the option to swap the extenders for something else, you could get some nice APs and use them in their place.

Hi,
Just following up on this. I'm ready to move forward with the Purple and will use the BGW320 in passthrough mode. I'm still, however, wondering about the access points. If I get 3rd party access points, will they show up in the Firewall app as access points and will the app allow me to see what network clients are connected to each one? In other words, will the app show me a network topology map? Is there a specific list of APs that are compatible (i.e. will show up in the app)?
Thanks!

There is no topology map.
The reason is, AP's are transparent to Firewalla, meaning, they only have an IP address, but what's behind it are transparently bridged via layer 2 to Firewalla. Unless you have a sophisticated AP that needs a controller, you shouldn't need to do anything to them. (also, unless you mess with SSID to VLAN mapping)
