You should plug the blue into a switch that's connecting to the Orbi main unit. Connecting it to a satellite AP will likely slow down the system. (unless you run ethernet between your main unit and the satellite)

Also, please check https://firewalla.com/compatiblity and make sure your unit is compatible with simple mode, you may need to run it in DHCP mode.

Depending on the orbi, the newer wifi 6 ones will need to run the blue in DHCP mode.

So far i don't have any issues with the Firewalla Blue. The only thing I have noticed is randomly my internet seems to be throttled but only for a second. I have 500 mbps up/down so i never problems with streaming but since installing the FWB I have notices that occasionally things would need to buffer. I am not sure what that is all about. Also What did you mean by run it in DHCP mode? Are you referring to the router?

What I mean is, if you have the orbi wifi 6 version, you will need to set the blue or blue+  in DHCP mode. Here is how to switch to it https://help.firewalla.com/hc/en-us/articles/115004304114-Everything-about-Firewalla-DHCP-Mode-

Just put up the network overlay with the DHCP mode and turned it off on the router. I renewed the lease on my two computers, printer and phone. Is it safe to just wait till the rest of of my IOT devices come to term on their IP lease and renew with the new subnet or do I need to go through and change all of them manually?

Yes, you can just wait until all of them slowly move to the new network.
