Does Flashing require the SD card be left in?

I have a firewalla Red that was not responding and would not factory reset or connect to app. Ended up going through the Flashing process and was able to get the box up and running from scratch again.  I then removed the SD card with the Image and rebooted it, but it no longer seems to load. I'm  not getting a Link light on the Ethernet switch it's connected to. The only lights on the Firewall red box are both Orange/Green lights on the Eth Port. They are solid ON, not blinking.   

Do we need to leave the SD card with the Image in the box at all times?

  The Red, Blue, Blue+ runs on the SD card, so please do not remove it. 

  Purple, Gold do not rely on SD to run.
