Blocking internet to own device

I blocked internet access to my own phone via the app on my phone. I assumed that there would still be a connection to the Firewalla to unblock it, but it seemed this really did block all access. It seems my phone needed to connect to a Firewalla cloud network to reinitiate the connection. I would have thought that even if internet was blocked, I could still access the Firewalla box (router) via the wireless AP to unblock my own device, without having to go to some internet cloud.

By the way, the reason I want to block my own device is to prevent my kids from using my phone as a hotspot.

    If your phone is blocked, you still should be able to access the LAN side, are you not able too? you may need to wait a bit when the app launches, in certain situations, it may timeout first and then go local.

    you just need to load the app and it will let you get into it. (it may be slower while loading)

    I still can't get into it.

    To confirm, I am on my phone with the app. In Firewalla I blocked my phone. My phone is still connected to the Wifi, albeit internet is blocked.

    There's a message in the app saying "Firewalla box is unreachable. Move closer to Firewalla and try refresh. If it still doesn't work, reboot the Firewlla Box." Stilll nothing.

    Is there some button I need to tap to enter local mode or something?

    Update: looks like AdGuard on my phone was conflicting. As soon as I turned AdGuard off my phone connected with the Firewalla automatically in local mode.

    you are running adGuard filtering on your Phone? Do you have any particular list turned on? We can double check if they are killing firewalla services or not.
