MLB.TV App Not Working on Samsung Smart TVs with Firewalla Gold Plus
I’m experiencing an issue with the MLB.TV app on my Samsung Smart TVs fails to load, showing a spinning baseball icon. This issue started after installing my Firewalla Gold Plus and happens across all my Samsung Smart TVs. Streaming MLB.TV via a browser on a computer works fine.
Setup Details
-
Devices: Samsung Smart TVs
-
App: MLB.TV (subscription active, app installed on TVs)
-
Firewalla: Gold Plus with default settings
-
Active Protect: Enabled
-
Ad Block: Enabled, but TVs are excluded
-
No custom rules except for a Target List and Allow rule for 2 sites I saw being blocked by DNS filtering (I assume active protect) - both has a favorable reputation.
-
-
Observed Behavior:
-
MLB.TV app on TVs shows a spinning baseball, no content loads
-
Browser streaming of MLB.TV works without issues
-
Initially saw blocked flows to lcprd1.samsungcloudsolution.net and tvs.adgrx.com, with a DNS filtering rule.
-
After adding a Target List and Allow rule, no blocked flows are now reported for the media room TV, but the MLB.TV app still doesn’t work
-
Troubleshooting Attempted
-
Excluded TVs from Ad Block
-
Confirmed browser streaming works, isolating the issue to the MLB.TV app
-
Created a Target List (MLB_TV_Allow_List) in the Firewalla web interface with the following domains:
-
lcprd1.samsungcloudsolution.net
-
tvx.adgrx.com
-
-
Created an Allow rule for the Target List:
-
Verified no blocked flows for the media room TV in Flows > Blocked after applying the Allow rule
-
Restarted the TVs and reset network settings to clear DNS cache
-
Confirmed Firewalla firmware is up to date
- Enabled Emergency Access mode for TVs (no effect)
I can connect the TV to my Verizon Hotspot and I can launch the application no problem. It's the firewall, but I'm just not sure what is blocking it.
