How to Use Long range Outdoors cameras With AP7
We are all in with the new Firewalla hardware. I am switching from a large TP Link system to only Firewalla. The simple administration is a big plus for my wife to control our network, and the security control are outstanding. But, Because of hardware limitations we have to be creative.
A simple solution for long range communication, and to avoid a double NAT is to use a HaLo system. It is long range, Low power and works seamlessly with the AP7.
Advantages:
Long range (through buildings and trees)
Low power
Integrated 2.4Ghz for the end use
Seemless Backhaul, and end device operation by the AP7
Low cost
Disadvantages:
DIY form factor and Outdoor use
Only a couple of MFG
Bandwidth restriction
We installed a HaLo transmitter on the roof of our shop, and that Unit then connects to the HaLo receivers. The HaLo receivers transmits a 2.4Ghz signal for the cameras to use, or any other Iot device.
The HaLo transmitter is plugged into the AP7 2.5Gbit port, so we can see all the connected devices downstream.
