Throttling all internet speed to certain devices

I've been chatting to ChatGPT, it seems to think I can set up 5 minute schedules on specific devices to throttle down the internet speed, setting up rules like:

    Rule 1: 19:00 to 19:05 300 kbps

    Rule 2: 19:05 to 19:10 1 kbps

(from 19:10 to 19:15 there would be no limitation)

    Rule 3: 19:15 to 19:20 300 kbps max

    ...

    Rule 150: 23:45 to 23:50, 300 kbps

    etc etc

Thanksfully I have a function on my phone to shut down network access to the cell tower, so even if the iPhone tries to default to the cell tower it won't connect.

I know a few of us are thinking of doing the same (we are parents as well), let me ask around and see if we can push up the priority.

Are you saying that such a function is not possible now but perhaps in the future?

We manually insert rules to slow down using the smart queue. But, it will be interesting to make that automated.

I've been using smart queue. Are you using screetime or some apple app to lock things down? I have not found those effective.

I personally uses a combination of screentime (from apple) + firewalla to control access. Firewalla at the network layer and apple at the application layer. (Why dual layers? kids can be smart and start to use browsers ... and firewalla can easily catch those)

Dealing with a teen and finding Screentime leaky. We have Qustodio on top of that, which helps. Definitely nice to catch the end-around with web-browsers.

+1 here -- would love to see a feature where I could limit bandwidth on a schedule. I don't want to shut the network OFF completely, for the record.

I want my kid's device to stay connected since small push notifications may still be useful, but I don't want them frantically scrolling at 3am in bed

I also kinda generally like the idea of throttling all of my IoT devices since they're primarily lights and smart speakers -- admittedly I don't have any great reasons why other than principle of least priv.
