Unable to connect to wireless access point over VPN

Hi,

 

I have two TP-Link Omada Access Points, each with a static IP. Both work fine. Using their static IPs, I can, while inside my LAN and via web browser, connect to and administer them. However, when outside my LAN and connected to it via VPN--either WireGuard or OpenVPN--I can't connect to either WAP. The attempt to connect simply times out. I can see and connect to all other resources on the LAN except those two WAPs. Someone has suggested that this is a DNS issue. Does that sound right?

  Can you ping the AP's? if you can, then the problem is likely the TP-link is not accepting connections from anything outside of the LAN.

  Yes, I can ping both. How do they know I'm outside the LAN? Over the VPN connection, am I not for practical purposes inside the LAN?

  Pursuant to your response, I found an "Enable Layer 3 Accessibility" setting in the TP-Link's Web Server management section. Enabling that solved the issue. Thanks much.
