Pi-home on Firewalla Gold, but not in a docker container
If I didn't want to run Firewalla Gold in router mode, but ran it in simple mode, do I need to install Pi-hole in a docker container still? Could I install Pi-hole the same way it's done in Firewalla Blue? Is there another gotcha I'm missing?

you always need to install pi-hole in a container, doesn't matter which mode you are running. We strongly advice not install pi-hole directly, since every reboot the core firewalla code will reset, your installation will be removed. Only docker containers are persistent between reboots.

This is because the Gold is a router, we put a special mechanism inside to ensure users do not mess up the root file system (intentional or accidental). Blue/Red are inside devices, and most people run them in simple mode, so if they blow up, the system can easily be recovered by flashing the SD card.
