Is Unbound, the recursive DNSserver (https://nlnetlabs.nl/projects/unbound/about/) necessary or useful in Firewalla? For kicks, I tried to install it but it failed  activation due to a masked DNS service so I uninstalled it.

  Anybody else tried this?? Would  there be a greater load on the Gold

  Unbound should not put too much load on the system. 

  Firewalla uses DNSMASQ which is a forwarder (it relies on another DNS server), and Unbound is a resolver, which talks to DNS root servers directly.  

  You can google for the differences
