Name resolution over VPN not working
I am not able to use the name of the device when using Windows Remote Desktop to connected over VPN to my home network with the Firewalla device. When the client computer is on my home network it connects fine. Judging from IP addresses I'm guessing the Firewalla device is on its own subnet and not using my router DNS to resolve names. Presumably I could resolve this by assigning a static IP to the computer that I want to remote into and then using the IP when remoting to it, but I don't want to do that. How can I configure the device to use the routers DNS?

OpenVPN is a layer 3 VPN, when it connects, you are actually on a separate network, this means, MDNS based DNS mappings will not show up.
What you can do alternatively is use Firewalla's internal DNS capabilities. You can find this configuration under devices->[find your device]-> Local Domain
