VPN Server with Firewalla Gold as main Router
Hi Folks,
I hope you are all well, and staying safe!
Firstly, I love my Firewalla Gold!!
I seem to be having some difficulty understanding how to get a VPN Server running, due to not getting the correct port forwarding rules set on the Firewalla Gold.
In my house, I am presented with an ethernet port for internet. I am connect to this via a PPPoE connection type directly into port 4.
From there I have the rest of my network (two switches and a wirelss-AP, ports 1,2,3).
When setting up port forwarding on the PPPoE connection, (I believe to be necessary to run a VPN Server), I am presented with a list of "devices" this rule applies to, but none of them are the actual router.
For those wondering, I do have UPnP turned on.
Am I understanding correctly that this port forwarding rule needs to be applied to the router (which is not displayed in the devices list)? or am I supposed to select my phone (the device I would like to "roam" with).
Any assistance in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards,
-
If you are running the Gold in router mode, you do not need to do port forwarding. If you are looking at VPN Server->Setup->Port forwarding, if it shows manual port forward needed, please check the IP address you are getting from your ISP.
For the VPN server to work, you will need a public addressable IPv4 address. We do notice a few service providers do not by default provide that.
To check IPv4, tap on Network->WAN and look at IP address. See if it is (10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255, 172.16.0.0 to 172.31.255.255, or 192.168.0 0 to 192.168.255.255)
