    We are amused too :) @Chris is great!

    BTW, the bios is a somewhat standard AMI;  we debated a while to lock it down, and our engineers just said, it will be stupid to lock down the BIOS ... so we left it open.

    I'd love to see more @Chris! An unlocked BIOS for a firewall is fine, considering the fact that if someone has unauthorized physical access to the FG you've already lost the battle.

    Well, after all it's just a normal PC.

    Firewalla Gold Hardware base:

    Just for further reference for connections and pins on the board.

    Happy hacking ;-)

    @Ryan, we keep most of our (public) goodies and findings on GitHub.

    @Alex, we are trying to help the Firewalla support team here. Already we have seen people trying to do Firewalla things way out of their skill and experience. I don't want the FWG team to be taken away from developing new goodies for us. They shouldn't have to be teaching Linux command usage 101. Last thing I want is for them to have to help people fix broken toys. Also, not everything on "that" website is accurate. For example, we have already been through about a dozen Wi-Fi cards, even the ones the manufacturer implies work with their hardware. None work. But that team too is great.

    @Chris

    Sorry I don't really understand your comment towards me... :-)

    Anyways, was just saying, that the box is not a "magical box" or in any way custom build for Firewalla Gold. It is a normal, off the shelf PC with a (slightly) customized BIOS. That's about it. ;-)

    Sorry @Alex. I wasn’t clear. There is a very wide skill level in Firewalla users. I try not to post links or techniques that can result in less experienced users needing the help of the Firewalla support team. For example, we aren’t posting here how to get into the BIOS. If you need to be told how to get in (or can’t find us elsewhere) you shouldn’t be mucking with the BIOS.

    On the other hand, if you want to help us figure some things out ...

    @Chris

    Thanks for taking your time to explain.

    Sure thing. In this case we might need a section for the "more advanced" users or move to another platform.This would then be also a better place for your tutorials like how to install a SDD into Firewalla Gold - especially to not tempt the inexperienced...  ;-)

    Anyways, if it is the wish to keep this forum here mainly as a support forum, so be it. I'm ok with that. Let's move on from here and think about another/proper place to discuss further technical details. What do you think about that?

    Don't think too hard.  Please post whatever you want.   Innovations come from people asking questions ... and innovation comes from us interacting with you.  :)

    I think firewalla being a proper linux stack, one of the most interesting aspect would be to finalize a way for users to contribute to the platform in well ringfenced way. basically, reserving a portion of disk for users scripts  (similar to /jffs on merlin) which would be preserved through reboots and upgrades, keep providing turn key recipes for docker based services which can be ringfenced. And let people contribute...

    There is storage space reserved for this already.  Once 1.971 out, we will likely have a couple of our engineers start to write up how to expand the platform.  I think they did one (not yet published as of message) on pi-hole + 1.971.  (how to preserve config across reboots).

    @ChrisHewitt

    Is there an easy way to get into the BIOS?  Want to see my Bus Clock speed.  There is some 8Gig DDR3 SODIMM from HyperX that is 2133MHz.  If I decide to put in, want to make sure it’s running at 2133.

    This is easy for me on PC or Mac, but want to ask before I root around FG is all

    thanks,

    There is a very easy way to get into the BIOS.I just don't want to post it here.

    If you "know what you're doing" you should have no trouble finding me on Github and finding my Firewalla Information and the bit on Accessing the BIOS and how to brick your Firewalla Gold.

    I just don't want people newer to Linux, Networking, and hardware breaking their toys and taking time away from the support and dev team.

    Please do share on your ability to speed things up ... just don't let the smoke out.
