As far as I know, you can't change that.

    +1 here.

In particular, using Gold as a router, it is critical to be able to change the DNS/DHCP domain name -- particularly for phones and other devices using the internal DNS and namespace on the LAN (via WiFi or other) and also 5G (outside of local namespace).  Note that this shouldn't be exclusively for the DHCP scope, but should be applied in-general to any LAN segment created -- whether VLAN or otherwise.

Just one example; in the case of iPhones and iCloud synchronization, the account credentials and endpoints are synchronized to the cloud, and having a local in-house mail server that I'm forced to call 'mail.my-domain.lan' doesn't work when transitioning outside of the local LAN / DNS namespace.  Same applies to any OS X device -- or, I presume Windows -- where configurations must be changed to transverse the mail.domain.lan vs mail.domain.com.

In 'Simple' mode, not an issue, but as the Gold is "optimized for router function" per the Installation Guide, sort of defeats the purpose and is not particularly useful.

+1 from me as well. This is something that we really should be able to change

I logged in over SSH, and changed the FQDN as per https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/322883/how-to-correctly-set-hostname-and-domain-name, rebooted, but the changes were't saved. I can't use the Gold as a router unless I'm able to set the domain name of my LAN.

@richard, can you send an email to help@firewalla.com?  please attach a pointer to this thread.  I think this is a fairly simple feature, if we can do it without UI change, you probably can get it pretty quick.

Is there a solution to this?

I'm in the same boat.  Have tried changing the local domain name from LAN to what some of my devices depend on and it appears to work -- and then reverts back.  I've also tried changing the domain name of a given device so that it might be assigned a FQDN from the DHCP server.  It warns that it will affect all (which is fine) and then within a few minutes reverts back to LAN again.

It looks like Firewalla planned for this to be edit-able, but a bug in this build is not retaining a non-default setting ?

This is a display bug in 1.970.  (1.971 should fixed this already).

Scroll to the bottom, you can now see problems and solutions :). we just added this recently.

Hello from the future (2023) was this feature implemented? I can't seem to find it.

I changed "search domain" from "local" to "whatever" and my devices are not getting hostnames of time device.whatever... as i was getting on pfsense/opnsense before i migrated to firewalla.

    Please consult this https://help.firewalla.com/hc/en-us/articles/1500002445242-What-is-the-Firewalla-local-domain-and-search-domain-

Since this service is DNS, you need to make sure your DNS is not encrypted
