Not planned for now.  But it should be really easy to do if people want them ...

Yes, logged this feature already.  If more people scream at us, we may move it up.   This type of feature is not difficult, the only problem is we have to maintain a cloud to email gateway, more cost to us.

Hi Firewalla, I know that to maintain a cloud to email gateway, more cost to you guys and I think as a costumer you should not add this feature at least not this way, because we don't want to add more cost to you guys! All the features you guys provide without monthly fees is great !

But, may there's a solution that can be done from the box itself once it's linux powered!

I had done something similar long time ago by providing a google account that uses the free google api, and I was able to send emails alerts from google itself!

So may this way don't add any cost at all, except the time of work to get this done !

    Keep up the great job!

Thanks, the problem with these power features are really economics.  We are not a large company, we are a fast-moving startup that listens to customers' needs directly.  And startup needs to feed ourselves and grow to deliver you more features.   So our management need to figure out a cool way to balance all of this, and while we get to write cool features

I also would not expect Firewalla to simply absorb such costs.  To me though, the solution *seems* simple:  Offer such email alerts as an *optional* feature, for a (hopefully small?) subscription cost.  Maybe I am wrong though, and such an idea would *not* be easy to implement?

Regardless, I can tell you this:  As a freelance network admin, who has using a Firewalla device for one of my clients, I really do not like the fact that I am forced to use my *personal* smartphone, to manage (and receive alerts from) my client's Firewalla device.  That alone has kept me from purchasing more Firewalla devices, for all of my other clients.

In typing this, I am realizing that any such *optional* subscription service for email based alerts, really needs to *also* include an option for web-based (*only*) management of the Firewalla devices (and not simply have web-based access to the Firewalla devices be a "compliment" to the Firewalla smartphone app).

Implement some kind of optional subscription like this for us business users, and it seems to me that you'd likely sell for Firewalla devices to such business clients.  Thanks in advance for considering something like this, as I'd like to use your products more.

@brian point taken.  will forward your message to our team and see what they think.  A few of them are ex-InfoSec people, they will also think " I really do not like the fact that I am forced to use my *personal* smartphone " ... need to be changed.

Just wondering what the team now think of email alerts? Upgraded to the gold and its becoming such a great tool, the email alerts really are missed. What about having a setting whereby you use the user's email server to send the alerts? This way, there will be no additional cost to you.

The cost of sending emails is there, but the majority cost to us will be the ongoing maintenance of such features.  We are still debating on building these power-user features (very important features to a few, and unlikely to be useful to the majority)  The only way to build them is charging separately, even we do that, the economics part needs to play out.

@firewalla, that is understandable. I just purchased a Firewalla Gold, and can really use this feature. Has it it been implemented? If it hasn't been implemented, is it still being considered?

    Thanks

    Sam

Nothing changed, we know this has to be done, but we still need to justify the cost of building out this infrastructure, as well as maintaining it.   At the moment, funding is the main issue.

Even if you added the feature to allow email alerts using a 3rd party or private email server would be beneficial. I monitor lots of equipment that allow you to enter in a mail server address for this purpose. I will reiterate Brian's concern about having to install the app on my personal phone for a product used at my workplace.

This is a NEED in our company, as this would greatly benefit audit trails. Now I have to manually generate reports + screenshots proving that things are being monitored. Ideally I'd like to get a daily digest e-mail on the ICT-mail group (like Sophos does). It shouldn't lead to extra costs if the device can send e-mails itself through our own e-mail settings.

We do have this implementation via the MSP (https://firewalla.net) for one larger partner company. Let me ask the team and see if they can integrate that back to other MSP.
