Hosting a VNP on my router

I currently run a router with ASUS Merlin software, I have the router hosting a VPN client which it routes traffic from selected local IP addresses through, other IPs do not go through the VPN. 

Could I continue this with a firewalla or do I need to use it's own VPN?

  I also own an Asus router and I can answer this one.

  Firewalla supports OpenVPN as it has a server instance installed. So you can connect the two by setting up an Asus router as a client and Firewalla as a server.
