New FWGSE Install - Static IP Cause Total Disconnect?
Just received my FWG SE. However, here's my home network setup prior to installing:
Frontier Fiber (500 MBps up/down) ONT ->
TpLink x55 Deco Router
-> wired Netgear Unmanaged Switch with xbox series x and two wall ports
-> wired MoCA connection to another x55 Deco for ethernet backhaul
-> wifi to another x55 for wireless backhaul
Approximately 25 devices - smart plugs, cameras, tvs, computers and said xbox
Prior to installing FWG SE, I powered everything down and followed the instructions. Successfully Bluetooth connected to the FWG SE with my iPhone for prelim setup. Then added the FWG SE in Router mode between ONT (2.5 G Wan port 4) and x55 Deco (2.5G Lan port 1 - LAN1 network), which I changed to AP mode.
Everything came up and appeared to be working correctly. All devices were connected and working. The following was enabled:
- Default stuff
- Ad Block - all devices
- DoH on 2 computers only
After a few hours of running smooth, I went to test the xbox (for the first time with FWG SE in play) and it would not connect to online stuff. Xbox network testing revealed Nat Type Moderate. Did some research and enabled a variety of UDP/TCP ports (port forward) per Microsoft docs. Nat Type still showed Moderate then after 'Test Again' in Xbox Network Settings, showed Open. Then tried to load a game and it would not connect.
So I removed the xbox from the unmanaged switch and plugged directly into the FWG SE (1G Lan port 2 - LAN2 network) and made this its own network. Then enabled UPnP for this network. This got me further along on the Xbox, but the game never fully connected to online servers, just stayed loading. Decided I would come back to this later.
For about 4 hours everything was working great. Watched some Netflix and YouTube TV without issue. During this time I was researching the xbox issue and found that setting a static IP may help. So I enabled that in LAN2. Roughly 15 minutes later everything disconnected. Looking at the FWG SE I saw a mix of blinking blue and static red status lights.
Took another 20 minutes or so to get everything back up - power cycles on ONT, FWG and other devices. I was able to continue watching Netflix for another 30 minutes or so then everything disconnected again.
At this point, I removed the FWG SE and changed the x55 back to router mode.
Could adding the static IP caused this or something else I'm missing?
