Homelab - who has one? What are you running? Looking to create one for me.

Joined today, looking to buy the Gold Plus, hopefully.

Looking to create a home lab, where I will be having home production stuff + learning/teaching.

Currently trying to decide on my internal lan, to see if I will do 1gb or 10gb internal network.

My thought process is this roughly;

ISP (UK) > Firewalla > Ubiqui 24 port Switch (1) / Ubiquiti 24 port Switch (2) > MS-01/MS-02

The inbound from the ISP will be Circa 750Mbps.

Internal network, still un-decided as it is a lab, if 1gb will be fine, or 10gb (we always want the best but do we actually need it).

MS-10 is a small node, will be running a couple, 64GB RAM each.

I was contemplating getting the Ubiquiti UDM SE, but I am not sure, mixed reviews.

Purpose for me on the Firewalla;

1) Main thing is to keep the kids off the bad stuff but also the fun aspects..

2) L3

3) Locking down by IP/APP/Service

4) Creating rules/groups

5) Monitoring .

What are your thoughts on the above? Am I going overkill on the Gold Plus? Will the SE suffice?

Hey welcome to the world of firewalla. Your best bet is to ask these questions in the firewalla subreddit or the selfhosted subreddit. That said I have a www.youtube.com/@kltechvideos/videos channel you could checkout. I do lots of videos on selfhosting and have made 2 videos about the firewalla gold SE which is very close to the gold plus just newer. So those tips and tricks should help.

Thanks for the reply. I also look at reddit and various other locations. I just thought it would be easier on this side of the lake so to speak. I had already looked at your videos :)
