Please help. UK users
Hello there,
Just wonder if anyone in UK could give me some help on Firewalla Purple Router mode.Recently, I had upgraded from Blue to Purple and successfully set it up on DCHP Mode. But I struggle on setting it on Router mode.
I am with EE and using the Smart hub 2, if anyone can give me advice on how to connect the Firewalla with the Smart hub 2 ( etc: lan to wan, or wan to lan on firewalla.) what configuration are needed on the smart hub 2 ?
I been reading all those advices on the website but still got no idea what to do. also not getting anywhere from the supports.
thanks in advance.

What kind of internet service do you have ? Are you connecting the SmartHub2 to your phone line (ADSL) or a ONT (FTTP) ?
I'm on FTTP in UK and connecting directly to the ONT from Firewalla.
I was on BT before and had to keep the SmartHub2 before the Firewalla because of Digital Voice (so had to double NAT as there's no bridge mode on their router), but if you don't have DigitalVoice, there's no need for the SmartHub in FTTP.
What I had to do to make that work with SH2 was to connect the WAN of Firewalla to the LAN of SH2 and set WAN type on Firewalla as static IP (I gave an IP in the range the SH2 is managing by default). Then on the SH2 I deactivated any router function like DHCP, firewall,etc.. to keep it as dumb as possible and set a DMZ with the Firewalla static WAN IP in it. As a result, the SH2 was just forwarding anything it received to Firewalla, and its up to Firewalla to do everything else (as mentioned before, the downside is the double NAT, but it was ok for my needs. I since moved my IP phone to independent provider so don't have to do all this anymore).

Hello SebH,
Thank you for your comment, really appreciated it.
I am with EE internet provider using the smart hub 2. I not sure is it ALDL or the other but all I get is 70mb downloading speed .I don’t think I have digital voice anymore as when I moved to EE, I opted out of laneline as nowadays no one really use lane lane.
I am really sorry, I got many questions regarding setting the Firewalla to router mode as I not really a Tech guy. So I know very basic things and if I need to go into deeper setting I am confused.com.
IF I did the same WAN of Firewalla to the LAN of SH2, how do I see the WAN type on Firewalla as static up, and also how would i get the informantion the range in the SH2?
How do I deactivated the router function on SH2 , where is DHCP and Firewall setting and what is DMZ. How do I find the correct Firewalla static WAN ip? What is double NAt and what is the downside of having double NAT?
Sorry for a long list of questions and also many thanks.

Hi
70Mb/s would be ADSL yes.
I guess in that case you could consider finding a modem that does the job to replace the SH2, but I can't give advice on this, maybe something more for BT/EE community forum to ask rather than this one?
Otherwise, if you want to keep the SH2, I don't have a Firewalla purple, so what I say here might not be valid for this model, but on the Gold, I have to tap the Network settings, select the WAN interface to edit, choose the "Connection Type" which can be DHCP, PPPoE or Static IP. I would recommend to search the Firewalla help pages if you don't find this.
I don't have a SH2 either, so just trying to remember the interface, but for the range I think it was in Advanced Settings then System ? I think the default is 192.168.1.xxx, so setting the Firewalla WAN static IP to something in that range like 192.168.1.200 should be fine.
There's no really deactivating router functions on the SH2, as it can't be set in bridge mode, but you can deactivate DHCP/Firewall in Advanced settings as well, that's as close as you will get. A bit of research on the BT pages or BT community forums on how to set the SH2 would be more helpful than this forum for this probably.
Same for DMZ, it's somewhere in Advanced Settings. In the case of SH2, it's just to define one device (IP) where all the traffic will be forwarded. In that case the goal is to put the Firewalla static WAN IP in this setting.

Thank you again.
What is the difference between modem/Router, sorry bit confusing on what do they do differently? On the Firewalla app , network, network management, create network, I can create network with Wan connection with static ip only .
Currently I am on DHCP mode, If I turn off the Firewalla and unplug the current setting (Firewalla lan to sh2 lan connection.
Change the connection setting to ( Firewalla wan to lan sh2 ) then turn it back on. Will this automatically set the wan static ip for the Firewalla ?If I turn off the dchp, firewall and turn on DMZ to the Firewalla static ip.
Would you think it’s might work ?
If it’s not work would I be easily switched back onto dhcp mode if I don’t delete the lan connection I am on now ?Thanks

I'll let you google for basic questions on router/modems as that's not really the point of this forum and there are plenty of sites out there which will explain it better than me (I'm no network pro).
I don't think Firewalla has feature to backup the current config in a file and restore it later, so unfortunately, it will be a matter of doing the setup again.
"Change the connection setting to ( Firewalla wan to lan sh2 ) then turn it back on. Will this automatically set the wan static ip for the Firewalla ?"
No it won't be automatic, you have to set an IP manually as it's static. It has to be static as the SH2 DMZ setup only allows a single predefined IP, so it can't be changing over time.

Hi SebH
Once again thanks for your comment.
I finally knew now that’s the device ( etc sh2) supplied by the internet provider has a modem build into it which allowed it to work and routers are different functions.I am thinking of investing a router tp link ax10 as a AP mode.
I am think of manufacturers resetting the purple, then deactivate the sh2 WiFi so no devices wirelessly connected to it and then connect Firewalla wan to lan to sh2 to set it up first on router mode.
Then turn the dhcp mode off on sh2 to prevent double Nat issue.
Connect lan to lan with the tp link ax10 and turn on the ap mode on the tp link ax10 and turn on the WiFi to connect up wireless device.Dose this sound right ?
Many Thanks again
