Show my rack
Well I missed all the great contests, but I finally got time to work on my rack. Certainly, not nearly as impressive as many I've seen the various pictures. Some of those are jaw dropping. But for me this is a serious upgrade from the plywood shelf I was using for years.
Across the top is a 24 port keystone patch panel. These lead to three separate network switches, all 2.5G or greater. Two are 8 port managed POE, one is a simple 8 port unmanaged switch.
The Firewalla Gold SE is in the middle rack.
Temperature controlled cooling fans keep the switches and Firewalla nice and cool.
Primary internet comes in from city internet a 2GB up/down fiber to port 4 on the Firewalla. Port 3 accepts a cable internet which is 1GB down, 100MB up. The Firewalla is in WAN failover mode.
Ports 3 and 4 feed the network switches but are not yet segmented. I'm trying to decide if I need any segmentation.
We have a lot of network cables in our house but many are not connected to anything so not all hardwire ports are connected. When the city upped the bandwidth to 2GB I had to replace numerous switches in the house with faster ones, but now all hardware points in the house support 2.5GB connection rate.
My son who visits regularly loves bringing his PS5 here and hardwiring it in. He claims he gets way better scores here when playing Call of Duty than on his internet at his apartment.
I am relatively new to Firewalla. In fact I purchased it when the city offered the 2GB service as my old router was 1G limited. Any new device is a learning curve and I was not sure at first because the Firewalla was so different from my past routers. But in the short time I've had it, I have learned to love and respect it.
Awesome job guys! AND! The support is simply top notch!
