Once the app EOL happens, the app should still work, we just stop testing them.

Both the red/blue were impacted by the pandemic; There are several parts (including the CPU) were discontinued by the manufacture. Once that happens, we can no longer build the unit, and we lost the support for the Linux kernel. This means it is not possible for us to update security patches and get newer stuff like WireGuard running.

Wow., what will mean, EOL? What will happen with the device? No function anymore? Or now updates anymore?

this will be very bad, because i'm using red and blue devices. If they'll stopp working, i'll need to throw them away, right? I'm not willing to buy devices which will have EOL with no function anymore in the future. If firewalla red and blue will be disabled, ofcoz i won't buy another firewalla anymore.

I'll go to a system which won't use cloud based services, so i won't get ever in this situation.

@firewlla team, is it true, that firewalla red and blue will be EOL and (i'm thinking) stopp working?

I was always very happy to use this little, sweet and nice firewall, i was always telling people in my environment about this little box. But i'm afraid that i'll change my opinion about this little device, if it will really stopp working in the near future.

right now i'm in holiday using VPN to my home to get the firewalla services. Really sad that i'll need to search a new solution for that.

I saw they'd been discontinued on the product comparison page: https://help.firewalla.com/hc/en-us/articles/360010465893

I'm not sure there's been an announcement though.  I have a blue though I've replaced it with a Purple since then.

The EOL notice should be there for a while now. For both Red and Blue EOL were victims of the pandemic, one of the CPUs was discontinued, and the other cost more than the Purple if we built it (and we had to get it from a secondary market)

Both boxes should continue to operate until June 2024, and after we will do our best to support them. (no significant app breakage)

I have an old red from 2017, I want to swap out. Will the Gold SE go on sale during holidays? or the pre-sale price is the lowest?

You must have the Kickstarter 2017 version. If you want a Gold SE, this is the best time (during pre-sale). We usually don't put units on sale, if we do, like just the lower end Purple SE

the end of life message now also appears in the app. I am still using my two Firewalla devices red and blue. If both are eventually no longer supported and they will become electronic waste. Well I had a good life "before" Firewalla and will have a good life "after" Firewalla. Just without Firewalla. So I will rely on my internet router and my Pi-Hole in the future. I will probably no longer be able to use the Firewalla functions. What a pity. But it's not my decision.
I will use Firewalla as long as my two devices (red and blue) are supported, but not after that. I will not buy a new device that I expect to lose functionality again in the near future like with red and blue devices. And of course I can't recommend it either. Let's see how long Firewalla red and blue will continue to work.

I hope more people will decide like me, not to give money to a device which will be e-waste soon.

technically, what is the purpose not to support red and blue devices? I'm thinking it's commercial way to let "fall" this devices.
