Own FWG - Do I need FWG Plus?
Hello,
I’ve been running a 1 Gig Fiber -> FWG -> Eero Pro 6e -> 16port Switch -> Eero Satellite Units (Via Line Backhaul) for over 1 year now. As of recent, my ISP has upgraded their Fiber plans, and allow a 2, 3, 5, or 10 Gig option. I want to upgrade the my ISP from the 1 Gig to the 2 Gig plan, and immediately assumed I would need to upgrade my FWG to the FWG Plus to get the 2.5 Gig ports. However, I just remembered that the FWG allows Link Aggregation up to 3 Gig. I’m not very familiar how that works or what changes I need to make to my Architecture to get more bandwidth if I do up my Fiber plan? Can someone provide some expertise or advice? Should I just purchase the FWG Plus and not concern myself with Link Aggregation?
Regards,
Aaron

Hi Aaron,
you can aggregate up to 3 ports... if your ISP and modem/ONT allow that. I am only familiar with devices that have two port aggregation on the ISP side, so you may only get two gig there. That leaves two ports on the LAN side that can also be aggregated (if your switch allows) so you have a symmetric configuration.
Now if you had any desire for a second WAN, you have traded that for link aggregation.
Gold Plus is certainly an option and there is a market for used Gold boxes if you want to sell it and upgrade. Some people keep their old devices around as a spare in case of failure.
You could also wait for the new Gold SE that is coming out which has two 2.5 Gb ports and two 1Gb ports.
