Using a MiFi (cellular hotspot) as a backup on Firewalla Gold

I would like my network to continue working for priority traffic if I lose my main internet source (Verizon FiOS). I have a Verizon Wireless MiFi that I'd like to use for this purpose. Does anyone have any experience with any of the wifi to ethernet adaptors for this purpose?

    My parents used a setup kinda like this. They lived in a area that did not get cable, so they had to use cellular. I got a Netgear WiFi extender that had Ethernet ports on it. That would get you going. Your MiFi would connect to the extender, the extender into you FWG, then have that set as fail over.

    I purchased the IO Gear Ethernet-2-Wifi device, and it works fine. I'm a little disappointed with how long it takes Firewalla Gold to fail over, but it's reasonable.

    Synology SRM also has an option to tether a phone over USB or plug a 4g dongle in the router as backup wan. Very easy to setup and works well. Is that possible for Firewalla as well (Purple/Gold)?

    The purple can tether via wifi to your phone.

    Gold may be a wifi dongle that can do the same.

    This is about WAN backup, so I meant using mobile data as backup for devices connected to the router.

    Okay, wifi tether works for you @jeeHaa? it is highly possible we will produce a simple USB wifi for the gold and the purple already has wifi, so that can be used to pair with your phone via wifi.

    Not sure if we are talking about the same thing, but I am looking to use the phone internet connection as backup internet uplink for the Firewalla (phone connected through Usb or as wifi AP), allowing internet access to all devices connected to it over the data connection of the phone:

    Sorry, we do not support directly attaching the phone to the USB port for tether.

    I think that would be a valuable feature with many people working from home nowadays. Simple WAN backup  at router level using a phone!
