Firewalla Purple SE PreSale
Thank you all for providing feedback on the idea of a lower-cost purple unit; the temporary name is now Purple SE (special edition). Since this is an existing board, bringing this to market should be fairly easy. So, as usual, we are considering setting up a pre-sale for this unit to give you an extra discount when we build them in bulk.
We will start the presale of the unit on 11/21/2022 Morning 8 AM Pacific Time. Special discount coupons will be distributed the Friday (11/18/2022 Pacific Time). Even if you don't get a coupon, the price will be a nice one, as usual :)
The software running on the Purple SE will be based on the Purple:
- Perfect for WAN speeds lower than 500Mbit
- No built-in WiFi; can be extended with the Firewalla WiFi SD if needed.
- The retail price of the unit is likely 229 to 249 dollars. The pre-order price will be lower.
- This unit will have the same capabilities as the Purple, including router, bridge mode, and VLAN support.
- 2GB RAM, 16GB EMMC Storage, Quad Core ARM Processor, 2x Gigabit Interface
- Presale Date: End of November
- Shipping date January 20th to March 20th.
To Signup for the presale deal: https://firewalla.com/purplese
Based on the number of signups, we will finalize the presale and delivery dates (and better pricing). Before the presale, we will send you a special discount code to be used during the launch (bringing down the price even further!).
If we do not have enough signups, we may not start this project, so please help us spread the word!

FAQ
What is the VLAN Speed?
VLAN will be limited by 500mbit as well. If you have heavy VLAN to VLAN traffic, we advise you to purchase the https://firewalla.com/purple or https://firewalla.com/gold. The Purple SE CPU resource is limited, it is not capable of supporting high bandwidth VLAN to VLAN traffic.
Can Firewalla WiFi SD work on the Purple SE?
Yes. Same way as Gold.
Can I take the Purple SE on the road?
Yes. Please remember the Purple SE does NOT have wifi interfaces like the Purple.
Does the Purple SE have Bluetooth?
Yes

Will everyone who pre-ordered the Purple SE receive an invite to the beta program? Are there any specific tasks or actions required for the beta testers to follow? Does the beta software collect extra data from the device or the network in some form? Just off the top of my head... :)
-
@tettezak, we will send email to people who ordered purple se, and also likely post every where, in case email is getting through.
@Tony, this is the final hardware, beta software. Unless we have a complete new image, you should not need to reset the unit / or flash it. The purple SE, like rest of our units, should be able to update themselves.

Update:
- Purple SE beta registration is here; please follow this link https://forms.gle/1zuXPachriQVtrAz7
- Purple SE beta shipment will likely happen toward the end of January
- Purple SE production shipment will likely be at the end of February
The beta selection will be first come, first served.

We will send out purple SE beta units today (January 17th 2023). You will get a tracking number if you are selected for beta. We will send some units this week and some next week. The final shipment for purple SE will be the end of Feb to early March. (depending on the boat ride over the pacific). The Purple SE beta will require you to join the app beta program. Please join by clicking the links below:We will release App 1.53 to beta in the next couple of days (this is the app for purple SE). https://help.firewalla.com/hc/en-us/articles/12473687267603-Firewalla-App-Release-1-53-Live-throughput-upload-alarms-and-more

FYI, Purple SE shipping is mostly FIFO; you will not be getting a "beta confirmation email", instead, you will be getting a tracking number, when it is shipping.
We shipped a small portion of the beta unit and will resume early next week. Please remember to use the 1.53 beta apps

Update
We have shipped all beta units! Almost half of them are already active; If you are in the last batch, you should get a tracking number in the next couple of days. Please give your feedback here https://help.firewalla.com/hc/en-us/community/topics/115000361734-Beta-Early-Access-Feedbacks or send help@firewalla.com an email

1.52 paired just fine with the Purple SE. The only issue I’m having is that on my 500/500 service the upload speed is slightly less than half of what it should be while connected strait to LAN. Updated now to both 1.53 and into the beta box version and still have the issue. I’ll open a ticket later.

Are you using PPPoE? if you are, see https://help.firewalla.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/10986364970643/comments/11270908349331
The speed is slower than 500mbit
-
The fiber I'm on is DHCP 500/500
The in-app Network test will show correct usually mid 400 for down and up but from day to day the tests are inconsistent sometimes being half. The Blue Plus did not have issues with the daily speed test fluctuation. The test server was locked down as well do it couldn't switch around.
At a computer wired directly to the LAN port of the Purple SE my DL/UP is 250/110 measured on Speed Test (on a consistent server) as well as Fast.com
If I run [FirewallaIP]:8833/ss I get around 906/521 which is odd. I've tried different cables. My 2.5gb mother board port, My gigabit USBc dock but the results are consistently the same.

Hey, just got my Purple SE, loving it so far.
I set it up in Simple mode, everything seems to work well except my Homeassistant running on an RPI4. I have it set up with DuckDNS and have ports forwarded on my Router. When I have monitoring turned on, I cannot connect to it. Turned off all the adblcok, family filter, DNS etc. Only thing that gives me access is turning off monitoring or putting emergency access onDo I need to create a rule in Firewalla to allow 443/8123 somehow?
