How to set up Gold/Purple as your main router if your phone has no internet access?

The initial setup requires both the Firewalla box and your phone to be connected to the Internet. However, some of our users reported that they are setting up a Firewalla box when there is no extra Wi-Fi and no cellular data available for their phones. 

Here is a workaround to help you set up the Firewalla box in router mode with only one Wi-Fi Router available in the network.

Let's take the Firewalla Gold as an example.

Step 1. Wire Firewalla box to your current gateway

Step 2. Pair your phone with the Firewalla box in Router mode

Make sure your phone is connected to your Wi-Fi router, and the Bluetooth is turned on. 

If you are using Firewalla Gold, make sure the red security dongle is connected to the USB port of the Firewalla box. 

Open the Firewalla App on your phone, tap on the "+" icon, choose Firewalla Gold, the App will guide you to wire up the box. 

When Firewalla Gold is found, the App will ask you to scan the QR code on the bottom of the Gold box. 

Next, when prompt with Use Gold as a Router?, select Yes, set up as a router.

Once the Box is wired up correctly, Firewalla will automatically set up the network.

Step 3. Change WAN network settings per your ISP

Login admin console of your router, check the WAN network settings.

• If your ISP allows connecting WAN via DHCP, you don't need to change WAN network settings. Just go to Step 4 directly.

• Otherwise, change WAN network settings on the Firewalla box per what you see on your previous router.

Open Firewalla APP -> Network  ->  Edit, tap the WAN network, scroll down to the bottom, tap Delete This Network 

Tap Create Network, select WAN Connection, follow the previous WAN Connection Type to create the new WAN, tap Done -> Save.

It will take one or two mins for APP to sync up with the Firewalla box. You may see 'Firewalla is unreachable' after saving the change.

Step 4.  Reconnect Gold box as the main router

• Unplug the ethernet cables between the modem, router, and Firewalla Gold, wait for 10 seconds, connect the WAN port of the Firewalla box to your modem. 
• Power cycle your modem and wait until your modem is fully up.
• Reload Firewalla App, the box should be back online automatically.

Step 5. Turn the previous router into an access point
