Firewalla now allows for changing or cloning the MAC address of its Ethernet ports to help bypass restrictions when your ISP has locked your internet connection to registered MAC addresses.
Note that Firewalla Box version 1.971 has a limitation that prevents you from changing the MAC address on Ethernet Port 4. If you are setting up an older version of the Firewalla Gold box, refer to this document for a simple workaround to bypass this restriction.
Step 0: Power on the Firewalla box, stay close to Firewalla Gold, and make sure the Red security dongle is connected to the USB port on the Gold.
Step 1:To set up the Firewalla Gold box, connect Ethernet Port 4 to your previous router's LAN port, and follow the regular setup steps. When prompted to "Use Gold as Router?", select "Yes, set up as a router".
Step 2: Once you have set up the Firewalla box successfully, it will automatically be upgraded to the latest production version. To change the MAC address on your WAN port:
- Go to the box's main screen, tap on Network, and select your WAN connection (usually named ISP 1 by default).
- Tap on Edit in the upper-right corner, scroll down to the bottom, and set the MAC Address to a pre-registered MAC Address required by your ISP (likely the MAC address of your previous router).
- Tap Save to apply the changes.
Step 3: Disconnect the Ethernet cable from the LAN port of the previous router, wait for at least 10 seconds, then connect it to the LAN port of the ISP modem.t.
Step 4: Your Firewalla box should be connected to the Internet within 30 seconds.
