What is Ethernet Speed Downgrade?
When Firewalla Blue reports Ethernet Speed Downgrade, this means that the speed of ethernet port of Firewalla is reduced from 1Gbps to 100 Mbps. It will reduce your internet speed if your internet speed provided by ISP is higher than 100Mbps.
The issue could be a few things, either the ethernet cable connected to Firewalla box is broken, or the other end, that the ethernet cable is connected to, has issues in term of ethernet speed negotiation.
How to fix it?
You can troubleshoot this by trying the following things:
- Make sure the ethernet cable you use to connect Firewalla Blue is the one came with the Box or labeled as CAT6 or CAT7.
- Unplug each Ethernet cable and plug it back in. Make sure that your cable is pressed firmly into the Ethernet jack. You should hear and feel a very audible click sound when the cable is in place.
- Try different LAN ports on your router. If possible, use another gigabit device to test if the port can work at Gigabit speed.
- If you have a gigabit switch, try to connect Firewalla to the switch and then connect the switch to the LAN port on your router.
- Power cycle your router.
