If you are changing your router or moving Firewalla to a different network, and you'd like to continue using the Firewalla Box without resetting it back to factory default. Here are some instructions:
Scenario A:
If your firewalla is in Router mode with WAN setting as DHCP, or Simple mode, or Experimental Simple mode.
If you are setting up a router with the same IP Address, or you just updated your router with new firmware, or you are setting up a router with a different IP Address, follow these steps:
- Power off Firewalla
- Wait for 10 mins
- Connect Firewalla to your new router, power-up Firewalla
- Wait for 5 mins
- Launch the app
Scenario B:
If your firewalla is in Router mode with WAN setting as Static IP.
If you are setting up a router with a different IP Address, follow these steps:
- Before power off Firewalla Box, open Firewalla App -> Network -> WAN.
- In WAN Connection, Change the IP Address, Subnet Mask and Gateway to match the new network, then save your changes.
For example, your original router IP address was 192.168.86.1, and the new IP Address is 192.168.100.1. You'll need to change:
- IP Address from 192.168.86.x to 192.168.100.x
- Gateway from 192.168.86.1 to 192.168.100.1
- Primary DNS Server from 192.168.86.1 to 192.168.100.1
- Power off Firewalla, and wait for 10 mins
- Connect Firewalla to your new router, power-up Firewalla
- Wait for 5 mins
- Launch the app
Scenario C:
If you are setting up a router with a different IP Address, and Firewalla is already powered off, follow these steps:
- Change your new router's IP/subnet to the same as the old one.
Here are some general guides:- Log in to your Routers' admin page
- Make sure DHCP service on the Router is enabled
- Find Network Settings/ LAN Settings.
- Change the IP address and subnet mask to the same as the previous router.
(switch from "Automatic" to "Manual" if needed) - Disconnect and reconnect your devices to the network
- Connect Firewalla to your new router, power-up Firewalla
- Wait for 5 mins
- Launch the app
- follow scenario A or B to modify the router to the new IP and set up the firewalla
